Leroo La Tau, Botswana
August 2022
We mainly went to Africa for the Zebra. Our lodge, Leroo La Tao, overlooks the Boteti River opposite Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, which may as well translate to 'Zebra Central'.
Thousands of Zebra (and other animals) migrate to this area of Botswana yearly. The Boteti is shallow and narrow, but apparently adequate because that's where everyone hangs out all day. The next set of pictures were taken from our balcony.
With views like that, I only took a couple pictures of the lodge itself, which was quite nice.
Our guide interrupted breakfast our fist morning to show us some lions that were hanging out at the entrance, one of which I was able to photograph. Exciting as this was, it's also the reason we weren't allowed to run or walk alone at night - they might be waiting to pounce!
The game drives were amazing. The "roads" were just paths through the deep sand. It was a 15 minute drive to the park entrance, which was just across the river - in the final picture below, you can make out one of the huts from out lodge.
We didn't have to look hard for the zebra herds. The only questions were how frequently and how long to stop and watch them.
Our final gift from this beautiful space was some sunset magic.
Our guide knew to bring us to a place with a wide open view to zebra leaving the river for the day, kicking up dust, backlit from the setting sun.
